UAEM State of Affairs: Spring Quarter

The international community of UAEM has been very active in their efforts with the following 1) Johns Hopkins Licensing of their new tuberculosis drug

2) Advocating on behalf the UN Access to Medicine Panel

On April 1, 2016, Act Up, UAEM, and OASIS Clinic will be protesting against Gilead Pharmaceuticals around the world. An investigation by the U.S. Senate Finance Committee found that Gilead had used strategies to maximize profit through morally bankrupt pricing of medicines.

We are demanding Gilead to reduce the price of hepatitis C drugs (Harvoni and Sovaldi) and anti-HIV transmission drugs (PrEP), as well as, improve access to these drugs. We are also demanding that Gilead tells the truth about R&D and to use a more sustainable and fair pricing system.Locally, our officers are coordinating actions for a Northern California UAEM Conference, as well as local efforts for increasing membership.
